According to a tip that Droid-Life got the Verizon training for the new HTC Thunderbolt has started this week. This is promising for anyone that is waiting on the T-Bolt to drop into stores, as training usually starts a few weeks prior to the release, and there have been rumblings of a February 14th launch date. Now while this is exciting, there is one little piece of magic that has been rumored to have been discussed at this training. And that is that thenThunderbolt is capable of doing simultaneous voice and data over Verizon’s 3G network. I says pardon?!?!?! This is something that was thought to be impossible on the CDMA carrier’s 3G netwrok and that LTE was to be the saviour on this front.
Now since the initial word of the training broke, Phandroid has managed to get their hands on a internal Verizon slide that states “the functionality isn’t advertised due to the fact that it’s not common across all of their devices and because they can’t promise it’ll be consistent with their brand.” So basically it looks like the Thunderbolt has no problem doing the simultaneous voice+data combo, but that it could be a little spotty and not always work. This is amazing news for Verizon customer that were looking at the Thunderbolt but maybe shying away due to lack of LTE coverage in their region, well now the gloves are off and I am sure that the Thunderbolt is going to do some awesome numbers if this is all true. Now the one other thing you will notice on the slide is that the T-Bolt will not be launching with Hotspot capabilities, but it looks like Verizon is working on it, so fingers crossed.
If you are thinking of getting a HTC Thunderbolt please head over to the Thunderbolt Forums and let us know!
