The last big announcement we got today at the Google event was that in-app purchasing is making it’s way to Android. This will allow for users to buy songs, or update to premium versions of apps from within the app itself. No longer will you have to buy and download a premium key from the Market when you already have the “lite” version of the app installed.
This is definitely something that has been missing from the Android platform and it is nice to see it making it’s way over. Not only will this make it easier for the end user, but it will most likely also attract new developers that have stayed away fromAndroid due to the lack of in-app purchasing. A good example of that is Disney, who was invited to come up on stage and announce that they are releasing three of their apps on Android, the biggest of which is Tap Tap Revenge.
Google announced they would be releasing the SDK to developers for in-app purchasing at the end of the live event today, so we should start to see some of these apps very shortly.
