Apple Rejects Samsungs Offer To Settle Patent Dispute

Samsung-vs-Apple

Didn’t Days of our Lives get cancelled?  I guess not.  Corperate giant Apple has rejected what was supposed to be a pretty nice deal from Samsung to settle the patent wars.  If your not familiar with the raging battle we’ll sum it up for you.  Samsung’s new UI has been shown to infringe on patents filed by Apple that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 “has the same look and feel” as the technology used by Apple in the iPad.  At this moment I think we are up to 9 countries now,  20 seperate cases and a full on ban in one of the countries.

In the world we are RAPIDLY approaching the holiday season, manufacturers are in high gear to prepare for the massive shipments that will be going out.  Analysts have already said that the [Samsung] Tabs are on track to overtake iPad in sales.  Apple recieved a deal that would have Samsung design a UI specifically for Australian owners.  This wasn’t good enough.  This is really showing us that Apple is 3 things:

  1. Terrified of competition
  2. Unwilling to cooperate in settling this war
  3. They know Samsung will overtake them
More after the break
Apple lawyer, Steven Burley says
“It is one we don’t accept and there is no surprise. The main reason we are here is to prevent the launch (of the Galaxy 10.1) and maintain the status quo,”
Samsungs offer was for removing two features out of the Tab, one of which involves touch-screen display technology, which without would render the tablet useless.  The US Patent office rejected an Apple patent after years of consideration for multi-touch technology.  Apparently Apple will defend their remaining touch-screen patents vigorously.
A US judge on the case did allow Verizon and T-Mobile letters in support of Samsung.  This didn’t go over well with Apple at all.  Eventually something will break before both companies go broke.
