Leaked render of the LG CX2, the “Optimus 3D 2″

LG-CX2-front

The world of Android in 2011 will be remembered for a few things, one of these is the introduction of 3D smartphones and tablets.  For the majority of us 3D was seen as a gimmick and something that I was really hoping was going to become something of times gone by.  Unfortunately it seems that LG just can’t seem to let the 3D thing go.  This is a leaked render fo the LG CX2, which is thought to be the Optimus 3D 2.

I am really hoping that LG is going to be the only OEM to keep trying the 3D gimmick, but my gut tells me that this will not be true. The CX2 is expected to feature a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP chipset opposed to the 1.0GHz that that original Optimus 3D had. This is expected to help speed up the whole stereoscopic-ness of the 3D imagery. LG is also rumored to be using a NOVA display on the CX2, which will provide a significant increase in brightness on the screen.

We can expect to see this one at MWC next month, and then most likely in retail channels sometime in mid spring, with a Gingerbread build (which is very disappointing). So do you think the whole 3D thing should just give up and die? Or is it something that may just be worth it once the tech advances a little more?
