Only a few days after Instagram finally launched on Android, social media giant Facebook decided to pull the trigger and buy the company for 1 Billion dollars and some Facebook stock. Yes that is right folks, that “hipster” filter adding app garnered a huge pay out for the Instagram founders. Now of course since many people have some very strong, and not always happy, feelings towards Facebook this acquisition has prompted some huge outcries from users.
On his personal timeline, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave some statements on their purchase of Instagram. ”We believe these are different experiences that complement each other,” he wrote. “But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram’s strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.”
“That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.”
Now I am not a huge promoter of Facebook, and if I didn’t have so many friends that use it I would close my account and move solely to Google +. However I cannot deny that Facebook provides a service that no other company has managed to out-do. Hopefully Zuckerberg stays true to his statement that Instagram is not turned into a part of Facebook, and rather left as a separate entity that merely feeds into Facebook better than any other.
