LEAK: MetroPCS LG Esteem ICS port in the works!

and_ics

If you haven’t heard of Playful God in the past then you’re missing out on some great development.  When I bought my Huawei Ascend I immediately wanted more and he was the man to do it.  While the Ascend is no power house he was able to make it more than MetroPCS ever could.  Now that I have upgraded my phone to the LG Esteem I am still running his GingerSteem ROM with the Plague kernel @ 1.7 GHz (stable).  Hit the break for more!

After speaking with him today I am told he is working on an ICS port to the phone as well; this is awesome for MetroPCS users as they will probably never see an “official” ICS coming to that phone.  I’m not real positive on the progress of the OS itself he does say that it’s not quite ready yet, still has some issues with some things in it.  I’m a lot of thing but worried isn’t on of them I have seen some miraculous things coming from Playful God with the CM base and without.

If you don’t remember the Esteem was the talk of the town with MetroPCS.  It’s got a 1.0GHz Snapdragon processor, 512mb RAM, 4.3″ AMOLED screen w/Gorilla Glass from Corning.  There was a mad dash rush to stores when it came out and even with the issues it had in the software stock that didn’t stop people from buying and replacing if needed the phone.  Now with GingerSteem it’s even better and ICS will make it the cat’s meow.  Imagine a high-end device on ICS and only having to pay maybe 250-300 bones WITHOUT a contract.  Yeah I’d say it’s a honey of a deal!

Some of the things that work on the port are:

Boots to lockscreen
Hard & Soft buttons (soft buttons are slow n laggy to respond)
Once past the lockscreen by pressing the HOME soft button it gets to the home screen.
Search and settings can be opened with soft keys
If you ever reboot it, it bootloops at the bootanimation, thats if it gets past the lockscreen n doesnt go into the bootloop.

Some things that are still being worked on:

Everything else!

Just like with CM ROMs, follow the #1 Rule – Don’t ask for an ETA.  There is no exact science for this so an ETA is not possible!
