The Source For Android Nerds! Sun, 20 Jul 2014 18:46:46 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Google removing FREE from free to play games in the EU Sun, 20 Jul 2014 18:46:46 +0000 As we have seen in the past with the Microsoft law suits that Europe loves to empower its citizens. Today it has gone even further and confirmed a rumour that was leaked a couple months ago. It solidifies that Google has agreed to remove the word FREE from the listings of apps and games with in app purchases.
 The EU ha asked for:

  • Games advertised as “free” should not mislead consumers about the true costs involved
  • Games should not contain direct exhortation to children to buy items in a game or to persuade an adult to buy items for them
  • Consumers should be adequately informed about the payment arrangements for purchases and should not be debited through default settings without consumers’ explicit consent
  • Traders should provide an email address so that consumers can contact them in case of queries or complaints u

The effects will come in to play in the Google Play store around September.  The same list was passed on to Apple as well as well as theInteractive Software Federation of Europe.  The changes will probably never reach North America so we can all continue to spend hundreds of dollars unknowingly on Candy Crush.

Sony Flagship Xperia X2 Now AVailable to order in the United States Sun, 20 Jul 2014 14:10:28 +0000 Sony was very silent with this one, which is odd for their flagship device.  If you are looking to get your hands on the new Sony Xperia X2 you now can from the Sony Store website.  If you are unfamiliar with the X2, it is a great device, with a true candy bar design.  Sony has done a decent job on keeping up with the other top names in terms of specs.  Boasting a Waterproof device, and 20MP camera.

The X2 being sold in the Sony Store is the International Unlocked version with the LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20.  Making it optimum on any network in North America.  Now we have had the X2 in Canada for a while, and it is an impressive device.  I would most likely root it and put a different ROM on it just to get the right feel.  I find although Sony does a great job with construction and over all OS layerying.  There is just a little too much bloat for me in the OS, and unneeded apps.

Lost But Not Forgotten Wed, 16 Jul 2014 01:25:56 +0000 Well here we are, 8:3o on a Wednesday evening.  I am now back at home in Canada after spending time with people who I dearly wished lived closer.  Getting what I feel is the red carpet laid out for me.  All over what was a simple BBM over when a fellow blogger was on a road trip.  Turned in to a brotherhood and friendship that will last forever.

Let me start by introducing myself, I am Fubaz, also known as Ricky.  Previous blogger and long time BlackBerry Advocate…. yes I said it, the word that is like a swear or tainted blood in this community “BlackBerry”.  And this goes further back than any of the new revival that they have in place.  This goes back to when many of YOU might too have been using the original smartphone.  When the community was small and to have over 100 peopl eon BBM was a great feat, but now a modern classic as the multi-platform application keeps us all in touch.  The singular sound you hear when you are out, and see everyone grasping for their devices only to see someone pull out a Note 3 and smirk as they reply.

android-loveI was editor for a very well know BlackBerry blog and was put in touch with Sleepy2009 aka Art who runs this site to collaborate with them him and his team on news and leaks.  I  spent launch days the B_ren in Toronto hoarding over the news and the future of our beloved.  But it all changed when Art was crazy enough to take his family on a million mile road trip to the great white north.  He just mentioned he would be near my restaurant so I had to insist he come and meet up.

It was a true friendship from first handshake…. now lets forward a few years.  Art and I have come to know each other very well.  And share many of the same hobbies, like drinking beer and smoking a wide range of meats.  Well lets just say too many beers on my end and pictures of his adventures lead to a drunken purchase on Delta’s website and ended me up in Houston, TX for the 4th of July weekend.

Needless to say we put a fair dent in to the Miller Lite’s (too many to post publicly without feeling embarrassed) and it came down to how the mobile platforms and our likings have changed.  I now carrying two devices to get what I needed out of a platform,  and him always swapping devices.  The more we talked about it,  the more it ended up being an pact of revival for  But when it came down to it, I had to hit bricks and head back to Canada.

We now found ourselves file swapping more than ever and talking about ROM’s and what apps we used to keep our chaotic lives in check.  And the more it happened the more it sparked me to want to share it with everyone.  Even though I might be too late to the party and be considered a ‘NOOB’, none the less we all share the same idealistic emotions towards Android.  The open platform that will one day be the stock OS of all devices… yes I am predicted the unfortunate demise of Apple and BlackBerry in nature’s course of evolution.

Bringing this all together, you will see more out of us now, as our passion comes back as we emphasize what brought us here.  We will take review requests, try and do giveaways and bring back what once was!  I want to thank everyone for staying loyal to what has been started,  and hope you like what is to come in the future!
